AN article in The Independent on Friday ‘Travel Guide to Devon’ mentions eight areas of the South Hams as worth a visit.

The guide, which covers North, East and West Devon as well as our little slice of the county, remarks on the ‘tranquil base’ of Hope Cove, the ‘accessible’ South West Coast Path, from which you can see the ‘county’s stirring coastland scenery’.

Author Laura Holt calls Salcombe the ‘queen of the South Coast’ while pointing out that it ‘becomes west London on sea in summertime’, and points tourists towards the Salcombe Ferries and The Ferry Inn.

She advises checking out ‘Britain’s oldest family-run hotel, The Thurlestone’, with its view over Thurlestone Rock, and shore-side cafe The Beach House.

Bantham is described as ‘a quieter but no less beautiful version of Salcombe’ with car parking and the Gastrobus. Big bury-on-Sea and Burgh Island with the ‘historic hotel of the same name, once frequented by Agatha Christie’.
