We are writing to publicly thank the gentleman who pulled our border terrier, George, from the River Dart at Longmarsh, Totnes, last Friday evening.

George, who so far has not swum, had gone into long grass and down a slippery slope and fallen in the water. He was very frightened particularly as two hissing swans were approaching.

The gentleman quickly waded into the river and pulled George out to safety. He was gone before we could even ask his name.

Through your letters page, we would be grateful if you could convey our sincere thanks to this gentleman and let him know of our appreciation in rescuing George.
