Salcombe Town finally beat their local rivals Kingsbridge and Kellaton at the fifth attempt with a gritty 2-1 win at Belle Hill.
Both teams came into this game on the back of good results and were looking to climb the league.
It was the visitors who deservedly took the points home with them. Truth be known, it would have been better if both teams had spent the afternoon in the pub instead of playing football.
It would not be an understatement to say this wasn't Ks' best game ever, with Salcombe not much better.
The uneven pitch, low sun and strong cross winds ensured this was never going to be the free-flowing attacking derby everyone wanted to see.
The game started with Kingsbridge playing down hill and, despite marginally having more possession in the first half, they never really threatened.
The closest the hosts came to scoring was from a near own goal from Luke Milton after the Salcombe 'keeper's clearance bounced off him before rebounding just wide.
Salcombe also had glimpses of goal in a dull, stop-start first half, their closest efforts coming from George Hobday and Max Evans, both of whom had shots saved from the Kingsbridge 'keeper from close range.
The second half was much more memorable and, after a good spell in the game, Salcombe got the breakthrough.
An inch-perfect corner from Olly Stallard was volleyed into the top corner from the in-form Willie Giffen.
Salcombe doubled their lead soon after when Stallard once again fed a ball into Willie Giffen, who finished superbly, this time from 25 yards.
Salcombe then nearly killed the game off when substitute Alex Knight had a chance to score, but he was unable to convert the one-on-one.
With the game looking to fizzle out for a comfortable Salcombe win, Kingsbridge had other ideas and nearly got one back but for a heroic goal-line clearance from Joe Bailey. Soon after, though, and Kingsbridge did get on the scoreboard, Luke Harvey receiving the ball in the box and smashing the ball into the top corner.
This set up a tense finish and although Kingsbridge had more possession in the closing stages they never really looked like getting an equaliser against a solid Salcombe back four.
