YOUNG people looking to make a big impact in the local community are invited to join the South Hams Community Police Cadets.

Since 2009, the cadets have been out and about serving the community on the front line in Kingsbridge.

And the cadets are now branching out throughout the South Hams, with new groups planned for Ivybridge, Dartmouth and Totnes.

Some of the work cadets are involved in include crime prevention, beach cleaning, community events, fun days, letter drops, graffiti cleaning and attending royal events.

Police cadet manager, PCSO Paul O’Dwyer said: ‘This is a way for young people to give something back to the community.

‘People who meet our cadets comment on how polite and well-spoken they are and how they’re such good ambassadors for Kingsbridge.’

Devon and Cornwall’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Alison Hernandez is supportive of the police cadets and is keen for young people to give something back to the local community.

And the police cadets programme links in with the Government’s Citizens in Policing strategy, which calls for greater community involvement in policing.

The South Hams Community Police Cadets is currently recruiting and welcomes applications from young people in the South Hams aged 13-17.

More information can be found at www.dc.police.uk/cadets where an application can be downloaded, completed, and returned to PCSO Paul O’Dwyer at Kingsbridge Police Station, Fore Street, Kingsbridge TQ7 1AS.

If you would like to have an informal chat about the cadets, then please email Paul, the police cadet manager on [email protected].
