A new theatre production celebrating the South Devon coast is set to tour the area this October.

Songs from the Shore has been created by Running Dog Theatre CIC in collaboration with Doorstep Arts and South Devon National Landscape s Life on the Edge project.

The production will visit Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Modbury, with performances exploring the landscapes, people and stories of the South Devon coast.

Songs from the Shore mixes live music with real stories and imagined fables, exploring the challenges and joys of living coastally in the context of an ecologically collapsing world.

The first show will be held at The Flavel Arts Centre in Dartmouth, followed by a performance at Kingsbridge Community College, with the final show taking place at Modbury Memorial Hall.

Life on the Edge Communities Officer Stuart said the performances would provide an opportunity to bring theatre to the South Devon coast.

He said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring theatre to the South Devon coastline.”

“It will be a great night of music and story, as well as a joyful celebration of the wonderful landscape around us.”

The production has been commissioned by South Devon National Landscape as part of the Life on the Edge project, which is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Organisers said the show was inspired by the coast s natural environment, as well as stories, folklore and the experiences of coastal communities.

Songs from the Shore will be performed at The Flavel Arts Centre, Dartmouth, on October 8, Kingsbridge Community College on October 10; and Modbury Memorial Hall on October 16, with all performances beginning at 7pm.
