KINGSBRIDGE Community College was the venue for an evening of contemporary dance featuring students and professional dance company SpinDrift.

Entitled Obstacles and Horizons the evening explored the beautiful rural South Hams landscape.

Over 40 students took part, performing work that SpinDrift dancers had taught them during lesson time. Suzie West, head of dance at KCC said: 'Learning repertoire from professionals gives students interested in contemporary dance the perfect opportunity to explore the career pathways open to them.'

The students performing were of mixed ages and abilities but the pieces were choreographed to show each dancer at their best.

Local musician and parent of one of the students Kathy Kenny said: 'I could hardly believe I was in Kingsbridge: it was a performance worthy of a venue like the South Bank Centre in London.'

A film by Jon Snell was shown and an exhibition of contemporary dance photographs greeted the audience featuring some stunning local locations used for site specific performances. The images were a mixture of professional work by Peter Dukes and Ben Borley as well as 6th form photography students.
