Seven Students from Ivybridge Community College have been selected for the Devon Under 16s England Rugby Player Development Group (PDG), a significant achievement that recognises their talent, dedication and commitment to the sport.
Year 11 students Ellie, Carys, Megan, Evie and Ruby, and Year 10 students Ayla and Emily have all earned places in the prestigious programme.
The students represent both Ivybridge Rugby Club and Newton Abbot Rugby Club and have demonstrated exceptional ability on the field.
Adding to this achievement, three of the students have been selected for the programme for a second consecutive year, highlighting their continued development and performance at a high level.
Since 2022, England Rugby's player pathway has operated through the Player Development Group (PDG) structure, with the U16 age group forming the ‘Foundational Phase’.
A statement from England Rugby said: “The Girls' Player Pathway looks to play a key role in writing the next chapter in the Red Roses story.
“The various stages intend to inspire and equip players to maximise their potential. It recognises that every girl’s development is unique and aims to provide the right environment, coaching, and experiences to help them grow as both players and people.”
Each county manages its own programme, supporting around 60 players per season.
Progression through the pathway can lead to nomination for the U18 ‘Development Phase’, a highly competitive regional squad comprising players from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and managed directly by England Rugby.
Kieran Botha, Head of Rugby at Ivybridge Community College, said: “We are delighted that our students have been chosen for this exciting pathway in Girls Rugby.
“This achievement is testament to the dedication and hard work they put in week after week to excel in their sport. We are immensely proud of them and wish them every success.”
