A silver birch tree in front of one of Totnes’s landmark buildings is going to be cut down.

The application to fell and dismantle the Silver Birch at The Gothic House off Fore Street was given conditional approval at the development management committee last week.

Totnes Town Council and the tree warden raised no objections to the proposal, with request that “a more appropriately sized tree is planted to replace the felled tree.”

Past applications to fell the tree have been refused due to the tree’s “recognised amenity” as explained on the tree report.
