A local man has raised about £800 for the National Autistic Society as part of Autism Awareness Month for the second year running.

Scott Miller from Strete had his hair styled in a pink mohican haircut for the charity, as well as having a cake sale at Jewson in Kingsbridge where he works, all baked by his wife Dawn.

Scott is keeping his pink mohican until Sunday, May 14, when he will abseiling off the Orbit Tower in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London.

Scott said: “At 262 feet, it’s the UK’s highest free-fall abseil and I am terrified of heights.

“I have received lots of sponsors via work and the Everyday Hero website.

“One of the hardest things with autism is that outwardly you look like anyone else and you do not grow out of it.

“My youngest son Matthew is on the autistic spectrum with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

“One of our friends Jo Bailey wrote a book called ‘Sam and Chester’ about her autistic son - so much of the book could have been written about Matthew.

“If you have concerns or need support, the National Autistic Society is there to help.”

Scott added: “Many thanks to Donna Lewise who gave her time to cut and colour my hair.”
