John McHale, of Carey Road, Dartmouth, writes:
I have been giving some thought recently to the Townstal area of Dartmouth.
This area is now in need of further facilities to cater for its ever-increasing population. I have come to the conclusion that one of the most desirable facilities would be a social centre where people could meet friends, enjoy some refreshments, possibly a meal, and generally relax.
Given the parlous state of the country’s economy, this facility would need to be viable commercially, which leads me to believe that the best solution would be to build a public house.
The site of the pub would be a major consideration, and in order for it to be viable commercially, a level patch of ground on the main road would be needed.
I have given this much consideration over the past few months and have concluded that there is only one place our social centre can go.
I realise that my suggested site will not be welcomed universally, but what must be accepted is that it will be for the good of the majority who live in Townstal. The site in question is currently in use as allotments. In my view, this is a serious misuse of a spacious location that could improve local residents’ lives.
Indeed, I believe a pharmacy could also be built at the same location, which is another much-needed facility.
