CLASSIC cars of all makes and ages took over Kingsbridge on bank holiday Monday as part of the Classic Car Rally.
Sponsored by the Kingsbridge and Salcombe Chamber of Commerce, Nick Walker Printing and Toad Hall Cottages, the day was deemed 'an outstanding success'.
Classic cars started arriving at the town square from 10am onwards and by the time the official start time arrived at 11am, there was barely anywhere left to park.
By midday, even the main car park on the quay was full to bursting with a constant flow of traffic both in and out.
Event organiser, David Hanmer, of Toad Hall Cottages, said: 'There was a fantastic turnout of all sorts of vehicles that was just pure nostalgia for so many people. It was great day out for all ages and wonderful for the kids.
'The weather was kind and the rain held out until about 4.30pm so open top cars with hoods had a gentle drive home and no need to get wet.
'Most of the vehicles were local and varied from two vintage Bentleys, a Hotchkiss, and a 1924 Sunbeam 20/60.
'From more recently, a Jaguar XK 120, two E Type Jaguars, SS Jaguar (replica) two 1954 MG TFs, MGBs , Triumph TR2, Triumph Stags, two Austin 7s, original Minis and many more, too many to mention unfortunately.'
Prizes were awarded to an original Mini Cooper and the vintage Sunbeam.
Best costume went to John Bishop in his vintage Bentley saloon and a VW camper for the most accurate answers on the drive round that followed.
David added: 'Both entrants and the public thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I would like to think that those cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops that were open also had a good day because that was what it was all about.
'On behalf of the organising committee, Nick Walker and myself, I would like to extend a thanks to all the entrants who brought along their wonderful vehicles, the marshals for their help and South Hams Council for allowing us to use the town square.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year.'
