Cllr Keith Baldry, leader of the Liberal Democrat group, South Hams Council, writes:
You published a letter on March 9 from Cllr Julian Brazil.
In his letter he questioned how it was that district councillors at one meeting could vote for the continuation of a grant to Villages in Action and against the introduction of parking charges at South Brent, Aveton Gifford and Beesands and then a few weeks later vote for the opposite. He suggested that these councillors had put party political loyalty before doing what public consultation suggests is right.
In summary the Conservative Party whips had been at work in between the meetings.
I had hoped to see a response letter explaining the reversal in voting decisions.
I looked in vain in this week's Gazette. If members of the public want to see how their councillor voted on the introduction of parking charges.
They can do so on the South Hams Council website: http://www.southhams">www.southhams. gov.uk. Follow the link on the home page to Council Minutes; Council; February 9; page 6.
