Sandra Wyatt, of Burton Lane, Galmpton, Kingsbridge, writes: I have been a reader of the Gazette for many years and have rarely felt the need to express an opinion. However, I feel outraged by the salacious scandalmongering written in your article of March 6. I am referring to the slur cast on the Devon and Cornwall police following an officer being sacked after a disciplinary hearing regarding a sex allegation. the case was actually regarding an officer in Cornwall – geographically a long way from our area, so why report it in the South Hams? Officers in our area are exemplary in the way they respond to grizzly and disturbing cases day in and day out, providing support for our community. I question the motives for undermining such a service: is it lack of news this week, or a gross lack of judgement? Let's just hope that it is the former and that the Gazette is not going to stoop to the level of the sensationalistic tabloids.
