The Ivybridge branch of the U3A (The University of the Third Age) are welcoming the public to their open day at The Watermark on Monday 17th July between 2pm and 4pm.

The Ivybridge U3A is an organisation with over 350 members open to those who are retired or no longer in full time employment, including over 30 different interest groups.  Representatives of almost every group will be at the meeting to show existing members and other members of the public at the event just how much they have to offer.

The open day is an opportunity for individuals to see what the organisation has to offer, to meet active members, find out about existing groups, and see whether the organisation may be of interest.

The Ivybridge branch of the U3A was established in 2010, and has become a much valued organisation for individuals who are retired or no longer in full time emplyoment.

The Ivybridge branch holds monthly meetings at the Watermark on the 3rd Monday of each month. Throughout each month over 30 different interest groups meet in various locations. Some are out walking, looking at local history, natural history or industrial history on Dartmoor. Others are indoors with interests in music, art, card games, Science and technology and many others. The group’s choir have also raised over £10,000 for local charities by means of performing charity concerts. At the Ivybridge U3A, there is something to fuel everybody’s interests.

In 2016, the Ivybridge U3A was declared joint winner of the Nick Cummins Community Award. The Mayor said the organisations triumph was: “in recognition of what it has done to encourage the meeting of the third generation of the town, preventing loneliness and isolation of the over fifties. It has stretched minds, kept members fit and active and broadened horizons”. He added: “Retirement has never opened so many doors.”
