While many people are struggling to get to work or appointments, our furry friends are also suffering in the snow.

Eric Palmer, a farmer at Thurlestone, explained the problems he has had this morning. He said: "The snow is now thawing in the sheds making the cow beds wet. I got most of the sheep in just before the worst hit yesterday, so they are OK, apart from a couple who aborted due to stress, I guess, fortunately we’re not lambing until next week.

"Going out to clear some drifts in bit but the lower road past the farm has thawed in a single track and is passable with care, with 4x4!

"I’ve done a couple of rescues yesterday and I think the penny has dropped for most people, finally, that ’essential‘ isn’t walking the dog at Bantham or making sure they have enough milk for next week!"

Eric isn’t the only one, with people struggling to get to their horses and livestock to feed them and break ice on their water buckets.
