Mike Matthews, of Windsor Court, Kingsbridge, writes: Kitchen prey to malediction? These pictures of the Globe Inn kitchen presumably have official authentication – they are shocking. The image portrayed is totally unacceptable. This begs the question of what measures are in place and exercised to control food hygiene in public places and when inspections are carried out. Is any report being published on the inspection process with a regular public statement of results? The public pays for South Hams Council to do this for us. A considerable amount of money is spent eating out and there must be some right to know that control is being exercised – without having to report in ill in the first place. We depend on tourists. Would it perhaps be appropriate to spend less on glossy advertising and focus on the humble kitchen cleaner? And, from personal experience, it was obligatory to have an inspector check for dirt under my fingernails – never mind the kitchen floor.
