Dr Ben Titford, of the South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group, writes: Kevin Pyne of Lake Street, Dartmouth, rightly says that the people of Dartmouth need to have a real say over their future health services, Chronicle, July 17. The CCG, which holds most of the budget for health services, has had several meetings with Dartmouth representatives, including the League of Friends, Patient Participation Group, Dartmouth Town Council, surrounding parishes and the Dartmouth Caring voluntary organisation, to listen to their early views. Staff at the hospital and GP surgery have also been involved. We are now planning a meeting on September 30 for anyone who would like to join us. Full details will be in this newspaper nearer the time and all will be welcome. Most will agree that the hospital on the embankment and the GP surgery have served the community wonderfully well over very many years, but in the early years of the 21st century we now have an opportunity to think about the kind of healthcare that future generations will need. Change will be essential if the NHS is to manage the rising demand for its services and care for the growing numbers of older people with very complex needs. The idea of a 'one-stop shop', with the doctors, beds, community nurses, physiotherapists, social care, the voluntary sector and other services all under one roof, is an exciting avenue to explore. But I would like to assure Mr Pyne that there is no 'done deal' and I hope he and many others will be able to join us for our meeting in September.
