South Hams Council Leader Judy Pearce is among those who have now had their first coronavirus vaccination.

This week, Cllr Pearce took up her offer of the Covid-19 vaccination, with the district council taking this opportunity to implore everyone who gets offered a jab to take up the offer as Judy did.

Cllr Pearce said: “A big thanks to everyone at St Boniface House; it was so well organised, so slick and such a wonderful and unexpected setting – a barn conversion in open countryside.

“The ‘observation 15 minutes’ in the little marquee is well organised too. I couldn’t believe it when I got there, but it all works a treat.

“I am so pleased to see our most at-risk residents getting vaccinated. But that does not mean we can rest on our laurels – everyone must continue to abide by the national COVID-19 restrictions and the lockdown.

“The vaccine offers hope and light at the end of the tunnel, but we still have a long way to go. Please follow the rules and stay safe.”

When it is your turn to get vaccinated the NHS will contact you. It’s important not to contact the NHS for a vaccination before then.

The NHS is currently offering the COVID-19 vaccine to people most at risk from the disease. This week, two mass vaccination centres were launched in Devon at Plymouth Argyle FC’s Home Park and Exeter’s Westpoint Arena. People aged 80 and over will be the first to be invited for vaccination at one of the two new centres.

It’s crucial that people continue to observe the national lockdown, staying at home unless for work, one bout of daily exercise or essential activities.
