I thank the wonderful people who stopped to help me after my early morning accident on the A381 east of The Mounts on January 15.

A particular thank you goes to the lovely lady who took the trouble to give me a lift into Totnes.

One thing puzzles me though and that is why didn't the council finish gritting the A381.

As a motorcyclist, I won't ride on un-gritted roads in icy conditions and with extreme caution on gritty roads in icy conditions.

The council caught me out on that morning and, while my motorcycle will be a write off, I thank my lord that I'm alive.

Luckily there was no oncoming traffic as I slid along an ice- covered road on my front.
