A Royal Navy band will play swing at the Flavel.

The BRNC Royal Navy Volunteer Band under the direction of their new conductor, the Flavel’s very own Sid Davis, will hold a concert at 7.30 pm on Friday, January 19, at the Flavel Arts Centre,

Following the redeployment of the Band of HM Royal Marines, BRNC in 2009, the volunteer band was formed. This popular Big Band is made up of talented local ex-military and civilian musicians, some of whom travel from the four corners of the South West to share their love of great music.

A spokesman said: “They plan to take you back in time to evoke the sounds of the fabulous ‘swing era’ of the 1930s and 40s playing many old favourites including Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller and even Tom Jones.

“Come and join Mike, Lucy, Sid and the rest of the band for a celebration of all things swing at this annual Flavel Benefit concert by kind permission of Captain Jolyon Woodard RN of Britannia Royal Naval College.”

Tickets for this Flavel concert are available from the Flavel Box Office on 01803 839530 or online at: www.theflavel.org.uk.
