A WHITE rabbit, pirates, clowns and a nun all walked to raise money for Hope For Howard last Saturday.

More than 50 people met in Kingsbridge before jumping on the Rivermaid to complete their eight-mile walk for Howard. The 8M for 8K Fun Walk was held to raise money for Howard Wicks, who has locked-in syndrome.

He will soon be moving to a Neuro Rehabilitation unit in Plymouth and the Hope For Howard group have set their sights on raising 8K to go towards buying him a purpose-made vehicle so he can get out and about.

The sun shone for the walk and organiser Emma Betteridge said walkers had made a huge effort with their fundraising with many people raising over £100. Money is still coming in and Emma is reminding people to collect their sponsor money as soon as possible.

She said: 'Many heartfelt thanks to all of the lovely people who supported Howard.

'Thank you to all the local businesses who sponsored and supported the event such as Elliot Cleaning Co who paid for the ferry trip to Salcombe, Eco Taxis who gave up their day and vehicle in making sure that all the walkers were happy to continue the walk and transport everyone back to Kingsbridge, A 2 B Taxis, Alpha Hire, Ben Carr (slide guitarist) who performed for the walkers on their return, Anchor Sports for supplying the sashes, Brett Hornby and Roger Finbow, the Kingsbridge Gazzette, Creeks End for supplying bacon baps and coffees, Soar Mill Cove for supplying everyone with scones, cream and jam, Winking Prawn, Sun Bay Hotel, Kings Arms in Salcombe, Dick and Wills Brasserie, Crabshell Inn, Hope and Anchor and Nick Walker Printers.

'Also thanks to Rikki Elliot, Ben Rogers and Jamie Watts.

'I would also like to thank everyone who put money in buckets. The generosity of the community has been outstanding. I will announce the amount raised as soon as it has all been totted up.'
