Elderly users of a Kingsbridge day centre earmarked for closure may be asked to make a 50-mile, four-hour round bus trip to access a replacement service that doesn't exist.

A Devon County Council consultation document set out its proposal to close Tumbly Hill Day Centre and justified the decision by listing three other day care providers 'within Kingsbridge and the surrounding area'.

However, the validity of the consultation has been thrown into doubt by the revelation that the first centre on the list, given as KingsCare League of Friends, is in Kingsteignton, almost 25 miles away.

And KingsCare says it does not even operate a day care centre in Kingsteignton or anywhere else.
