WITH Kingsbridge Fair Week done and dusted for another year, its organisers have been looking back on the biggest and most successful event yet.
This year’s week had everything, from dazzling visual treats in the lantern parade and Saturday’s carnival procession, to sporting drama in the running, football and tag rugby events, to great music from both local and big-name bands.
Fair Week president Keith Wingate said: ‘I think it went exactly to plan and exceeded all expectations. We’re up on last year and we’re all very encouraged and looking forward to next year.
‘I must say it was very nice to see the people of Kingsbridge coming out and having so much fun. Fair Week is getting bigger and better by the year.’
Keith said his personal highlights were the ‘extraordinary’ lantern parade on Wednesday evening and being ‘mobbed’ by children when he was throwing out sweets during the procession on Saturday.
‘Seeing their faces was incredible,’ he said.
Despite a mixed week of weather, all of the events went ahead as planned, and for some the cooler temperatures were a blessing.
Keith continued: ‘The weather cooperated nicely, really. We had good weather at the right times, and when it was wet it was when it didn’t matter. It also wasn’t too hot for the fun run and 10k race.’
‘We’ve got to thank so many people. Fair Week is down to all the volunteers. The committee works tirelessly all year, but there are so many people who marshal or organise their own little bits.
‘It’s impossible to thank them all, but they know who they are and they have our thanks.’
