THURLESTONE, West Alvington and West Charleton Primary Schools held a day to celebrate what would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday last week.
On Thursday, September 13, children and staff came to school dressed as their favourite characters from the books of ‘the world’s greatest story teller.’
Jan Bosence, deputy head of Thurlestone primary school said: ‘Roald Dahl was such an incredible author. His stories and characters have entertained generations, so the opportunity to celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday was an absolute hit with children and staff alike.
‘Everyone came dressed as their favourite character and spent the day doing Roald Dahl themed activities. We all found out our ’Roald Dahl names’, the children designed their own ’dream jars’ - like the ones from The BFG, and the parents were invited into school to share their own favourite Roald Dahl stories with the children.
‘The whole day was great fun and the children across the federation all brought in donations for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, raising more than £150.’
