The Dartmouth Book Festival takes place at the Flavel between Friday, September 18 and Sunday, September 20.

It’s the third year of the event which is the first of its kind in Dartmouth.

Chair of the Book Festival Committee Lindsay Ellwood gives a flavour of this year’s event: “We've got Michael Rosen coming who's very well known and used to be the children's laureate,

“We've got Jeremy Hunt MP who of course used to be Chancellor and also Health Secretary with his book ‘Can we be rich again?’ so I think he'll be fascinating regardless of what your politics are and we've got Patrick Gale, who's a popular author from Cornwall.”

It’s not just the national names who will be represented but it is also a showcase for many local and regional authors too as Lindsay outlined: “we've got Julian Carnell who's the head of Sharpham Trust who's written a book called Becoming the ocean and that's all about the river Dart and so anything like that you know people people are obviously fascinated by because it's on the doorstep We've got Sophie Pierce and Alex Murdin talking about Dartmoor and all the tors and you know that a lot of the folklore and festivals and things like that that go on around Dartmoor.

Lindsay just wanted to add that the festival is the result of many people’s contributions: “This is a massive, massive team effort.

“We’ve obviously had some fantastic support and sponsors but also we have a huge army of volunteers that help in all sorts of ways.”

New this year is the pop-up Festival Bookshop in the Flavel Studio on the top floor.

It is where the authors will be signing their books after the sessions.

The children’s programme has expanded with events happening at Dartmouth Academy.
