His family have released a tribute to him: 'We are utterly devastated by the loss of Daniel, DJ, our beautiful son; brother; grandson and friend.
'Trying to find words with which to describe him is such a difficult task as the kind of person Daniel was seems to defy definition.
'Daniel from Kingsbridge was a keen sportsman with his main passion being rugby and football.
'He enjoyed playing for many local football teams, Malborough being his most recent.
'Daniel attended Kingsbridge Community College, and went on to South Devon College where he studied various subjects.
'He was the life and soul of every party and lit up every room he entered. He was hugely admired by so many people for so many different reasons.'
Andy Weeks, chairman of East Allington Football Club, where Daniel played, said: 'The club wishes to pass on its condolences to Dan 'DJ's' family and friends at this very sad time.
'Dan was always very committed, helpful and enthusiastic on and off the pitch in his time at East Allington. He was always willing to help out either team and also got a local business to sponsor the reserve team kit.
'DJ will be sorely missed and the club is going to pay it's respects by requesting a minutes silence at it's two matches this coming weekend.'
Friends took to Facebook to express their grief. Mark Daniels, father of Daniel's girlfriend Skye said: Thank you DJ for making my daughter very happy as she did you. I know you both loved each other in the short time you were together.
'I will miss your smiley face in the mornings when you stayed over. You are a fantastic young man, we will all miss you so much.
'Heaven have got themselves another angel, and I know you will look after your little princess Skye Marie. Sleep well my friend, God bless.'

Holly Samuels said: 'Rest in peace you beautiful person. A million and one memories will be treasured for ever. A great friend and work partner in crime. Love you always.'
Ricky Gritton quoted the Avenged Sevenfold song, So Far Away: 'A final song, a last request; A perfect chapter laid to rest; Now and then I'll try to find; A place in my mind; Where you can stay; You can stay forever.'
Daniel worked for Kbb in Kingsbridge, a spokesman for the company said: 'We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dan. He was a valued and loved member of the team at Kbb South West Ltd and The Clean Home Company.'
A 31-year-old woman and her four-month-old daughter were taken to Torbay hospital. The woman was later released with minor injuries and the child was found to be uninjured. A 41-year-old local woman and her 13-year-old son were treated at the scene and released.
A spokesman for the Police said: 'Officers from the forces' serious collisions unit have commenced an investigation and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a green Volkswagen Polo being driven in the area of Woodlands or who may have witnessed the collision. The Polo was travelling from the direction of Dartmouth towards Totnes.
