A woman is gearing up to participate in a 7k aquathlon to raise awareness of a local charity.

Citizens Advice South Hams CEO Janie Moor is training for the upcoming Wild Dart Swim Aquathlon in order to raise money and awareness for the charity.

The multi-sport event will take place on Saturday, September 1, and involves a one-and-a-half mile swim from Totnes to Sharpham in the River Dart, followed by a hilly run back along the river to the starting point at Totnes Rowing Club.

Janie is taking on the challenge to raise money and awareness for CA South Hams.

She said: “So few people realise that we are a local charity. We help thousands of local people every year from all parts of the South Hams.

“Our service is mainly run by volunteers who can offer advice and support on the phone, by email and from offices in Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge. We’re lucky to be a household name, but many people still don’t realise that we are a local South Hams charity, dependent on local funding and local volunteers.

“Hopefully by me doing this and talking about it people will come forward to sponsor me, offer help or decide to make a regular donation.

"This will be my second racing event. Last year I competed in the South Hams Triathlon and raised more than £1,000 in sponsorship. It’s becoming my personal challenge to do something like this each year.

“I’ve always been interested in sport and thought it would be good to push myself in a way that would help raise funds and awareness for Citizens Advice South Hams at the same time.”
