The Shine for ShelterBox candlelit meal and silent auction held at Kingsbridge Community College has been described as “a massive success”.
The event raised enough money to purchase four ShelterBoxes to be sent out to countries afflicted by natural disasters.
The evening was attended by more than 60 people who were served a range of world food and encouraged to place silent bids for items such as a week’s stay in the Ronda region of Spain, local meals, a luxury hamper and even an exercise hoop.
Originally it was hoped enough money would be raised to buy two ShelterBoxes at £590 each, but this expectation was surpassed and doubled with enough raised for four ShelterBoxes.
The Luckhurst family, who organised the event, were inspired by local teacher, Lizzy Treglowan-Ryan who is a ShelterBox volunteer.
Imogen Luckhurst said: “The event was particularly successful due to the support of local businesses and the generosity of friends."
