A mother and three children from Blackawton are travelling to Wales to take part in the Samaritans Dawn Walk.

The idea is to do the 5K walk at sunrise so that nobody faces their darkest hours alone.

One in four people have suicidal thoughts and every 10 seconds the Samaritans receive a call for help.

Ioan, Isla and Theo Todd-Dilger and mum Lauren want to help the charity with their vital work supporting people who are struggling and helping to prevent suicide.

Ioan said: "We are raising money for the Samaritans because it's important that there is always a volunteer to talk when someone is in need"

Theo added: "The Samaritans are very special people because they are always available when someone needs them"

Isla said: "I am looking forward to watching the sun rise in Wales and walking with my family and my puppy Max"

Lauren said: "I am so proud of the kids and the way in which they challenge themselves to raise money for such worthy causes. We want people to know that even during the most difficult of times, there is always someone there to talk to"

They have already raised £150, reaching their initial fundraising target, but would love to raise even more before the walk.

The walk is timed to coincide with World Mental Health Day and people will be doing their walks on either October 9,10 or 11.

A Spokesperson for Samaritans said “Whether you’ve used the Samaritans listening services, are walking in memory of someone, or simply want to help others, there is still time to sign up to raise awareness and help fund their lifesaving services.

“Choose a meaningful location or your everyday route, go it alone or team up with friends and family.”

However you do it, you’re helping to save lives.”
