The jungle drums have reached as far as here on Salisbury Plain.

I hear from an old RAF chum from South Pool that Pete’s doors are closing. While my purchases over the past 50 years at the Kingsbridge-based shop would hardly have supported the staff tea tray, I have always taken pride in the ‘invisibles’ from the shop; and on receipt of the news, I managed to obtain from Pete’s enough ‘shreddies’, ‘kecks’, call underwear what you will, to last me until I pop my clogs.
