Young musicians were prepared to go 'percussion crazy' for the Dart Music Festival.

The academy's new Primary Choir and percussion group, called Percussion Crazy, were brought together help launch Friday's festival.

More than 70 youngsters, aged six to 11, were performing all-new songs in front of the bandstand.

Conductor, co-ordinator and music teacher Anthony Chamberlain said last week he was very proud of the two groups.

'We have been working with them over the last few weeks and they can all be very proud of their commitment, hard work and achievements in that time,' he said.

'I've worked with many young groups throughout my teaching career and am excited to be working with the enthusiastic students at the academy.

'It's vitally important that Dartmouth Academy takes part in the Dart Music Festival because it is such a brilliant event organised by the community for the community.

'We are expecting to see a lot of parents in the Royal Avenue Gardens for the shows and I know that all of them will be so proud of their children's performances.

'The academy has a proud history of performing at local events and we aim to continue it.

'It is my first event as music teacher and enrichment co-ordinator and so far this has been an exciting and fun first term.

'I am looking forward to this being the first of many performances for us at Dartmouth Academy.'

The choir and Percussion Crazy performed at the festival in the Royal Avenue Gardens on Friday afternoon.
