THERE will be a double interest for South Devon when the best young golfers in Britain compete in the Daily Telegraph Junior Finals in Abu Dhabi later this month, writes Lincoln Shaw.

Oliver Walsh will be representing Thurlestone in the boys' section and 18-year-old Amy Boulden will be carrying the hopes of family and friends in Kingsbridge as she battles against her fellow girl finalists.

Amy is granddaughter of Kingsbridge undertaker Dave Boulden and his wife Marie, and she was taught the game by her father, who learned his skills at Thurlestone and Bigbury.

Simon Boulden is now professional at the Maesdu club in South Wales, where Amy is a member, playing off a handicap of plus three.

She will have family support when she steps on to the first tee on November 21 because her sister Kimberley is a professional at the Abu Dhabi club and will be cheering her on.

Amy played in the Daily Telegraph junior finals last year and her glittering career has taken her all round the world. She was one of the youngest golfers to qualify for the British Women's Open last year and competed in both the World Cup and junior Solheim Cup.

She has teed up with many of the world's top golfers in the past two years including Tiger Woods who, she says, gave her some useful tips.

She hopes to join him in the professional ranks before too long – hopefully with a win in Abu Dhabi to add to her CV.
