A village home was severely damaged by smoke and flames after a blaze on Saturday night.

Three fire engines were rushed to Avondale Walk in South Brent after the fire service received an emergency call just after 10.30pm.

When they arrived firefighters found a blaze in the porch of a private home, which they battled with the help of hoses, breathing equipment and a thermal imaging camera. Firefighters also asked electricity network operator Western Power Distribution to attend to isolate the property.

Afterwards Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the home had suffered 100 per cent smoke damage, while the porch had been severely damaged by the fire.
