Kingsbridge Fire Station are holding a recruitment evening on Tuesday, November 14, from 6-8pm at the Station on Duncombe Street, TQ7 1LR.

This is aimed at attracting on-call firefighters for Kingsbridge Fire Station, to ensure that they can keep the fire engine available 24/7 for the local community. They are hoping to attract a number of people who live and/or work within the Kingsbridge area, who would be willing to join a highly trained, professional team.

“The role of a firefighter is exciting, challenging and most of all rewarding”, said Matt Radford, Station manager.

Candidates would be required to be able to respond to the fire stations for emergency calls during their declared (in-advance) available times with in approximately 5 minutes of their alerter sounding.

Currently there are on-call firefighters that come from a variety of backgrounds – for example self-employed, full time parents, trades people, administrators, shopkeepers.

But they all share a common purpose, wanting to give something back to the community.  Incidents can range from attending fires, floods, road traffic accidents, chemical spills, and talking to your community about fire prevention.

Potential recruits will need to be:-

-aged 18 or over (NO upper age limit)-able to respond from home/work within 5 minutes-physically and medically fit with good eyesight and hearing-prepared for the commitment and discipline of being a Firefighter-preferably hold a full UK driving license

The wide range of incidents they respond to require highly trained, highly performing teams with a mix of skills, knowledge, personal qualities, backgrounds and experience.

The communities covered can be as diverse as the situations they tackle, and knowing and understanding those communities is an essential part of the job. We want to ensure that our workforce reflects both the community and the mix of skills and qualities required to do the job.

“We particularly welcome applications from women as they are under-represented in our operational service”, said Matt.

“We also welcome applications from people who are Black, Asian or minority ethnic as they are also under-represented in our workforce.”
