Police were called to West Alvington last week to reports of a man riding a motorbike without a helmet.
A police officer attended and subsequently arrested an 18 year old man for drink driving, theft of a motorbike and an offence under the Public Order Act.
During the arrest on Wednesday, May 31, the suspect assaulted and spat saliva and blood at the officer.
The suspect was taken to Charles Cross police station in Plymouth and was interviewed the following morning.
He has been released under investigation and is yet to be charged while further enquires are made.
