Dartmouth Town Council has taken the next step forward to installing CCTV in the town.
The Corporate Property Committee proposed taking the discussion to full council at the committee meeting last week.
Chair of the committee, Cllr Robin Springett said he had run the plans past the Police and Crime Commissioner who said if the town went ahead with the plan they would fund roughly a third of the cost.
He said the plans met all the requirements from the police and the town council.
Thus, he proposed putting up to £40,000 into the budget for the CCTV system and to move forwards with the process.
The mayor, Cllr Rob Lyon agreed with Cllr Springett and said he saw no reason why the council shouldn’t take another step forward.
Councillors agreed the installation of CCTV in the town would hopefully act as a deterrent for crime in the town and the proposal was approved on Tuesday, January 22.
At the full council meeting on Monday, February 4, councillors will be receiving a presentation about CCTV.
