CSWPL premier division Ivybridge Town 4, Elburton Villa 1
Ivybridge Town kept up the pressure on the teams above them with a comfortable derby victory over near-neighbours Elburton Villa before title hopes ended with a heavy loss to Parkway. The Bridgers took the lead halfway through the first period thanks to a Phil Bromfield header, but were unable to hold on to the lead until the interval, Elurton scrambling an equaliser. Town came out firing in the second half and were soon ahead once again, star striker Andrew 'Rocky' Neal seeing a shot blocked but Joe Truelove on hand to fire the ball home for 2-1. For a long period in the second half it seemed that 2-1 was how the game was destined to end, but two late goals, firstly from Andrew Neal and then from Jordan Walton, saw Ivybridge with the result their dominant peformance deserved. Neal scored when a swift Ivybridge counter-attack saw him pick the ball the ball up on halfway before sprinting clear of the defence and calmly beating the 'keeper, and Walton thundered home a cross-shot which went in off the post. However, Town's title aspirations suffered a severe blow when they took on Plymouth Parkway at Erme Valley on Wednesday night. Realistically, this was a must-win game for the Bridgers, but in the event all did not go as planned. Parkway eased to a convincing 0-4 victory which sees Town remain in third spot, six points off leaders Exmouth and four points behind Parkway, who have two games in hand. Tomorrow Ivybridge travel to tenth-placed Torpoint for a 3pm KO.
