Dartmouth AFC U16s 3, Newton Abbot Spurs U16s 1
Dartmouth welcomed Newton Spurs to Longcross in their first home game of the new season and in a highly entertaining game, they made it two wins out of two with another solid performance. The hosts got off to the perfect start, with two goals in the opening seven minutes from Cameron Webb, to really stun the opposition. The first arrived with only three minutes on the clock when a smart move down the right side saw Webb spread the ball out wide for the overlapping run of right-back Charlie Blair. He got to the byline before cutting a sweet cross back to the unmarked striker, who swiveled well to volley a fantastic shot into the bottom corner. The second goal was created by some excellent work from winger Jamie Burrows, whose pass sent Webb in on goal and when faced with the onrushing Spurs 'keeper, he coolly scooped the ball over his head and into the empty net. At this point the young Darts were running wild and they constantly bombarded the away goal but found the goalkeeper in inspired form, making save after save. First he clawed out an Archie Irvine header from a Liam Wadeson corner, then he leapt well to tip a Tom Matthews rocket shot from fully 30 yards out over his crossbar. He twice denied Webb a first half hat-trick, with two brilliant saves, one from a free kick on the edge of the box, the second from a shot with the outside of the striker's boot, which looked to be curling in at the far post. On the stroke of half-time Dartmouth were made to pay for their lack of a third goal when a rare Newton attack caused panic in the heart of the defence and a shot from close range beat the helpless Aaron Morrison in the Darts goal. The second half was a carbon copy of the first, with Dartmouth camped in the Spurs half looking to grab that elusive third goal. Zac Fells weaved his way down the left side before crossing a tempter which just evaded the run of Solley Metchette inside the six-yard box. Then Irvine controlled a quick throw in on his chest and, after dribbling to the byline, he crossed perfectly to Connor Elliott, who was denied by an outstanding save from point-blank range. Wadeson then picked up possession inside his own half and beat five players on a superb solo run into the penalty box, before thumping a shot inches wide of the upright. With five minutes of the match remaining, Dartmouth eventually killed the game off. Wadeson whipped over a free kick which was collected at the far stick by Kieran Doyle, who turned his marker brilliantly only to see his shot ricochet off the near post. The 'keeper then blocked Matthews' follow-up on the goal line with a brave save, but when the rebound was regained by the big centre forward he clipped a wonderful shot over the 'keeper from a tight angle. At the final whistle the Young Darts were applauded off by the large number of home supporters in appreciation of a fantastic team effort which puts them second in the table and also maintains their 100 per cent record so far. The match ball was kindly sponsored by Coast and Country Cottages and next up for Dartmouth is an intriguing trip to league leaders Newton Town. Kick-off at Decoy Park is 11am and all traveling support is very welcome.
KM United U12s 4, Torquay Academy Sports FC 4 After losing out narrowly to Torquay 4-2 the previous week, KM were all the more motivated to get a result from the return fixture at Malborough. But after only five minutes Torquay were one up with KM peppering their opponents' goal but being thwarted by some outstanding goalkeeping. Tom H, Tom M, Billy and Fraser all came close but couldn't quite score. After 15 minutes Torquay scrambled a second, despite stout defending from Molly, Louis, Dan and Lewis and another sound performance in goal from Oscar. Several missed tackles let Torquay in again and the half ended with KM's backs to the wall at 3-0 down. With Oliver in defence, Molly and Sam (player of the match) in midfield and Luke and Richie up front, KM came back strongly in the second half. Laying waste the Torquay defence, Luke powered his way through to bring KM back into the game. Then, just a few minutes later, he rubbed salt into the wound by doing the same once more. KM pinned Torquay in their own half and, from a well-delivered corner, Tom M found himself free to fire home from 10 yards. Amazingly, KM still weren't done and with less than 10 minutes to go Luke scored again, seemingly through sheer willpower, to give KM a slender lead at 4-3. Just when KM thought they had pulled off the near-impossible, a late Torquay break saw them concede once more. Roselands U11s 7, KM United U11s 2
For the first 10 minutes KM handled Roselands' constant attacks really well. The back three of Callum Rodger, Liam Dyos and Josh Riddell restricted Roselands to a few long-range efforts. As the half wore on, KM's 'keeper Jonathan Cardrick had to make some important saves, but KM just couldn't cope with the constant home side pressure and conceded five goals before half-time. At half time KM made some changes. Ben Stephens–Dug, KM's captain, fired up the away team, even struggling with an injury. KM started to produce some fine football, Ellis Wadeson and Nathan Darbyshire gaining control of the midfield. KM were pushing forward to try and get back into the game, but obviously left gaps at the back. Cardrick made some outstanding saves before Roselands scored two more goals. KM didn't give up and started to play the best football of the match. Sam Roberts swung in a great corner for Sam Thomas to flick home then shortly afterwards a great passing move found Darbyshire in the box; he cleverly flicked it past the 'keeper to get KM's second.
