Devon Cricket League 1st XI premier division Cornwood 259-7, Exmouth 227 all out. Cornwood (20 points) beat Exmouth (eight) by 32 runs

Cornwood had opening batsman and all-round hero Jackson Thompson to thank for their second win on the bounce as they closed the gap on third-from-bottom Torquay to just 12 points. Batting first, Thompson showed his class with a superb 97, falling just short of a deserved ton. With help from opening partner Warren, who made 37, and a late cameo by overseas star Byron Langley (31), Cornwood posted 259 from their 50 overs. In reply, Exmouth lost wickets at regular intervals, with Thompson showing his versatility by taking excellent figures of 4-31 from 10 overs, and bagging a catch as well. Staddon and Butterworth supported him well with two wickets each, plus one for Goodliffe, to go with the Exmouth opener being run out. Cornwood will be keen to continue their charge tomorrow when they face a difficult trip to second-placed Plymouth, but momentum is a beautiful thing in sport, and the Corns are finally building some. The second XI got back to winning ways in the second XI A division with a six-wicket win over Plymouth. They set up the win by bowling out Plymouth for 93 and then secured 20 points despite losing four wickets. Their next game is against Hatherleigh.
