Following a rigorous selection process through late summer, three Kingsbridge RFC girls were selected for the Devon county U18 rugby squad for 2016.

Milla Lynch, Maddie Robinson and Livi Squire all impressed throughout the trials, and their inclusion in the squad is a great reflection on the progress made with girls rugby at Kingsbridge RFC over the last few years.

With just a short county season running from October to December, the girls have spent every Friday training with the Devon squad in a number of different locations throughout the county.

Following an injury when playing for Kingsbridge, Maddie missed the first county match against Oxfordshire.

However, Milla and Livi both made the starting team, and made significant try-scoring contributions to the resulting 124-0 Devon victory.

The second match of the season was held this weekend at Wessex RFC, and saw Devon take on Cornwall in the annual Tamar Cup fixture.

Unfortunately Milla sat this one out with a shoulder injury, but Maddie started on the wing, with Livi on the bench.

Again, both Kingsbridge girls did the club proud, with Maddie scoring a hat-trick and Livi coming on in the second half, adding an immediate injection of pace to the midfield.

She was unlucky not to score herself, but set up one of Maddie’s tries in an eventual 54-0 victory for the Devon girls.

Just one final match remains in the county season, away at the traditionally strong Somerset in early December.

Hopefully all three girls will be fit to play, and to continue representing Kingsbridge RFC in such a positive manner.
