Ivybridge cricketers will be hoping that they can turn up the heat in August as 1st XI, 2nd XI and Sunday team are all in the hunt for honours if they can secure a string of victories during the month.

With the 1st XI now beginning to pick up some hard-fought wins and old campaigners such as Johnson, Andrews and Trent finding form with the bat, allied to the wily off-spin bowling of Jeewan de Silva, it is not inconceivable that a title challenge can be made.

With the second team thriving under the captaincy of Mike Tuckwell, they too will feel that the title could be within grasp.

A mix of experience, in the form of stalwarts Tuckwell, Solomon and Stuckey, and youth represented by such players as David Eadie and Neil Lancaster, have put the team right up there as crunch time approaches.

The Sunday side, too, has strung together some good performances with youngsters such as Gemma Lancaster, Adam Huxtable, Tom Hall and brothers Rob and Luke Forward all stepping up to the mark and showing that the future bodes well for Ivybridge cricket.

As August begins, the Sunday team finds itself on top of the table and will be hoping to maintain the position.

A highlight of the August calendar is the annual Old Boys match, this year to be held on Sunday, August 26.

Some of the great Ivybridge players of yesteryear will be ironing their whites and stretching their sinews as they prepare to face the current players.

Familiar faces are likely to include Bob Andrews, Andy Abrahams and Nick Thomas, all of whom might line up against their sons Gareth, Pete and Lloyd, as well as former Colts co-ordinator Jeff Wakeham and current Ivybridge chairman Steve Ansell, whose wonder catch to dismiss 1st XI batsman Andy Johnson in last year's game continues to be talked of to this day.

This match is always played in the best of spirits and there will be Gribble's finest on the barbecue for players and spectators alike. Filham Park fixtures for August are as follows:
