They have been almost a month at sea now, and Josh Tarr and Jason McKinlay continue to do the South Hams proud as they remain in second place in the GB Row 2013.

It has been a hard slog for the boys since they entered into Scottish waters.

They have battled with strong tides, fierce winds and the dreaded Corryvrechan whirlpools.

Jason wrote on Day 19: 'We managed to get through The Corryvrechan without harm at 6.2 knots, which was amazing. We'd been expected to stop twice by now due to tides but managed to carry on.

'It's now coming up to 34 hours non-stop rowing which is great.'

Meanwhile, Josh's parents were travelling up to Scotland with the intention of looking for them off the bridge over to the Isle of Skye. Josh wrote on Day 21:

'We just made the weather window through Loch Alsh, an amazing little place.

'Out the other side we powered on to try and see my parents who've travelled up from Devon to see us, amazing!

'We couldn't see them but as we got closer I noticed Mum dressed in the brightest clothes she owns, along with a bright pashmina to wave to us in case we missed them!

'Turns out we could get close enough to speak and mum was screaming as expected.

'It was emotional seeing them and I think they felt the same, it got to me a little ... I know they're proud and it's a nice feeling.' As well as family waving, the Coastguard performed a fly-by on Friday, giving the boys a real boost.

The following day, dreadful weather forced the boys to remain at anchor for nearly 48 hours, as the wind grew to a force eight.

'So, on Monday, Day 24, the boys finally made the most of a small weather window and attempted to move on.

Jason wrote: 'The wind was 9-13mph, so it meant rowing together as far as we could to try and make the 16.2 miles to Cape Wrath and the top of Scotland...

'We rowed for five hours, making just 6.2 miles and were deadbeat. We tucked in to allow the strongest current past, to eat and sleep.

'A 2.5-hour rest and we went again. This time, the current was really strong and in our favour.

Nothing in the charts suggested this and our window was getting wider.

'We pushed on together for another four hours and turned around a nasty Cape Wrath just before 8pm.'

This will please Josh as he is now allowed to eat the pork scratchings he had been saving for this very occasion...

The boys are so grateful for everyone's support.

The boys endeavour to raise as much as they can for the three very special charities they have chosen, details of which can be found on the website.
