Matthew Henry, director of swimming at Dartmoor Darts Aquatic, had eight swimmers competing at the second weekend of the Devon County Championships at the Life Centre in Plymouth.

Matthew himself was also competing.

The squad train at Mount Kelly Swim Centre in Tavistock, although they all live in and around Ivybridge and attend Ivybridge Community College.

It was a true family affair, with Matthew taking the senior 50m breaststroke championship in 28.71 and his nephew, Cameron Williams, 14, winning the junior 50m breaststroke championship in 30.03 in a new junior record, as well as winning bronze in the senior championship.

Cameron’s mum Jane was officiating during the championships as chief timekeeper.

Other medallists during the weekend from Dartmoor Darts Aquatic were:

* Hollie Steer, championship final – silver in 400m individual medley, bronze in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m butterfly; and age group final – gold in the 200m freestyle, l Emily Morgan-Hughes – championship finalist in the 200m breaststroke; and age group final – silver in the 100m backstroke.

* Matthew Plumb, age group final – silver in the 100m backstroke.

* Cameron Williams, age group final – gold in the 200m breaststroke.

* Alice Chapman, age group final – bronze in the 200m breaststroke.

Overall, Dartmoor Darts Aquatic won four gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals during the weekend.

The final weekend of the championships are take place on the weekend of February 3 and 4 at Plymouth’s Life Centre.
