KINGSBRIDGE & Salcombe ladies’ 1st XI put in a dominant attacking display on Saturday, September 26, gaining an emphatic 8-0 victory against Plymouth Lions W4.

The hosts set the pace early, with Lucy opening the scoring inside four minutes and adding a second just four minutes later. Fi got in on the act in the 15th minute before Lucy completed her hat-trick on 28 minutes, putting the team 4-0 up at the break.

The second half continued in the same vein. Kerly opened her account in the 43rd minute, and Budge extended the lead two minutes later. Kerly then added her second of the afternoon in the 65th minute, before Laura rounded off the scoring in the 67th minute to make it 8-0.

Lucy, Fiona and Maddie were a constant threat up front, consistently making runs that gave the opposition defence no time to settle.

In midfield, captain Kerly led from the front alongside vice-captain Budge and Laura, all three putting in the miles and still finding the energy to get on the scoresheet themselves.

At the back, Tess, Amy, Freya, Nat and Debbie were the stalwarts of the defence switching on and off the pitch seamlessly and totally trusted to take on any opposition breakthroughs. Sophie had a quiet afternoon in goal as a result, helping the side keep a clean sheet throughout.

Meanwhile, the Kingsbridge & Salcombe HC 2s put in a strong performance against Okehampton 2s, despite having only 10 players.

Okehampton took a 1–0 lead into half-time, but KSHC 2s continued to work hard and create chances throughout the second half.

Julie scored the goal with a fantastic short-corner strike from the top of the D. Budge made excellent interceptions and pushed the ball forward, while JL made great tackles and an important clearance. Bella created space well and performed under pressure, making her first appearance for the club.

In defence, Izzy, Charlotte and JL made some excellent stops and tackles, with Sophie also making a great diving save. Alice made strong hits into the D, while Darcy did brilliantly to beat players and keep pressure in Okehampton’s D. Nicky consistently found herself in the right spaces.

Despite the 3–1 defeat, KSHC 2s showed great teamwork, determination and resilience. The umpires praised the team, saying they “made a great game of it.”
