DARTMOUTH Golf Club seniors were competing for the Savery Cup, a pairs and board event, on Monday, June 29.

Playing off individual championship course handicaps (subsequently adjusted down to 85% for equity), each pair took the best of the two stableford scores on each hole.

This is a format that players generally feel comfortable with as mistakes by one player can often be compensated for by the other partner.

16 duos were in the mix and with 45 points, Desmond Graham and Kevin Bradley prevailed on a high-scoring day.

On a perfect day for golf, David Morrall & Robert Gibbs and Graham Burton & John Merriam were hot on their heels, scoring 44 points apiece.

Next came; Mark Gannon & Ralph Clark (42 points), Trevor Pretty & Nigel Osborne (42) and David Sparks & Dean Raspin (41).

One birdie two was scored by Kevin Bradley at the fifth. Nigel Osborne counted them back with his normal efficiency. Many thanks again.

It was also a pleasure to see John Savery, after whom the trophy is named, in the clubhouse greeting players after their rounds. Thank you for attending John and many congratulations to our deserved winners.

In other news, the St Mellion home match for the Tamar Cup resulted in a 7-1 win for Dartmouth. The Tamar Cup looks homebound as long as we can secure another one and a half points in the away leg.

Onto knockout updates and in round two of the Blight Trophy, Robert Wotton beat Alan Foot, Michael Whitelaw beat Gary Bonser, Ian Black beat Barrie O’Shea and Steve Atkins beat Kevin Hoare.

In the second round of the Perring Cup, Gordon Kidd & Dean Raspin beat Peter Hannaford & Steve Tozer, Philip Green & David Thompson beat Nigel Osborne & Trevor Pretty, Kevin Hoare & Colin Weedon beat John Garner & John Cousens and Roy Baldwin & Brian Mushens beat Colin Cooper & Geoffrey Jewell.
