SIXTY-eight golfers, both members and guests, enjoyed the recent annual Devon Air Ambulance and Course Improvement Fund golf day at Bigbury.

The Vegas Scramble format is similar to a Texas Scramble but the roll of a dice determines which drive is taken.

There were other challenges out there, for example: on one hole you can only use a driver from tee to green and on another, only a pitching wedge.

All three leading teams scored 60 and so countback was required.

Prevailing were River Allen (Bigbury), Henry Wilson (St Mellion), Marc Davis and Callum Martindale (both Staddon Heights), winning a 4-ball at Trevose Golf Club.

In second place were home players Roger Edwards, Keith Naylor, Tim Stacey and Ross Ellard winning a 4-ball at Stover and in third place, more Bigbury members, Vanessa Mabelle, Mary Wilcox, Sue Winzer and Sarah West winning a 4-ball at Dainton Park.

A raffle with many 4-ball vouchers for various local golf clubs and prizes from generous local suppliers boosted the fund. On the day, over £1,000 was collected so a huge thank you goes to all who played.

Meanwhile, a recent mixed stableford saw Pete Cooper return to the winners circle, taking a decisive victory in Division One with 38 points and he also took the gross score prize.

In second and third were Diggory Vowles and Roy Mitchell, both with 34 points. Mal Sunley won Division Two with 40 points, one ahead of Andy Abraham who himself was one ahead of Alex Thomas. The highest place lady was Dot Kenneth in fourth with 35 points.

A Sunday men’s medal saw a countback win for Liam Anbary with an excellent nett 65, over Paul Edgecombe, Diggory Vowles close behind in third with 66. Ryan Moore won the gross prize again with a three under par 67.
