Last Saturday saw Dart Gig Club members meet at DARC for their annual end-of-season dinner.
The club have had an excellent year, with increasing membership – now including juniors – and growing achievements.
From the World Championships, where the club had three women’s crews and two mens crews, to the Newquay County Championships, members were involved in racing throughout the 2016 season.
Crews had top three positions at Paignton, Cattewater, Brixham and Dartmouth regattas. The newly formed men’s B crew have had some inspiring results; at Helford head they were second fastest crew overall and at Newquay, 28th out of 76.
The men’s A were placed a very creditable 13th at Newquay. The juniors had their first race at the inaugural Dart Gig Club mini event on the Saturday morning of the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta.
Club chairman Liz Moseley awarded the annual club trophies as follows:
Ladies rower of the year: Peta Chivers, Most improved female rower: Lottie Bond, Male rower of the year: Matt Bennett, Most improved male rower: Scott Hill, Cox of the year: Paul Kunert, Club trophy: Kevin Pyne, Above and beyond the call of duty: Peta Chivers.
If there is anyone interested in trying gig rowing, of any age (juniors from 11) or ability, please contact Liz Moseley on 07973 402803 to find out more.
