TWO second-half penalties secured Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police another three points on their mission for SW Peninsula League supremacy.
Saul Vanes made no mistake from 12 yards out on both occasions, earning the Bees a fourth league win of the campaign to date.
Prior to this weekend’s success, Matt Hayden and Sam Biscoe’s side had won one, lost one and drawn one on their travels.
Simmons Park was the destination for them, the home of a struggling Okehampton Argyle team, for whom the season is yet to really get going.
Stoke had a few good chances in the first 45 but couldn’t break the Oke resolve until after the break.
Vanes went to the goalkeeper’s right for his first spot-kick and then reversed it for the second, sending him the wrong way on both occasions.
In between the two goals, Kieran Parkin came close to continuing his rich vein of form, striking the woodwork from a free-kick.
Stoke are now on 13 points from seven games and sit fifth prior to the league’s midweek action.
Elsewhere in the division, struggling duo Teignmouth AFC and Axminster Town were both well-beaten 7-0.
The Teigns hosted leaders Bridport FC at Coombe Valley whilst Axminster visited fellow Newton Abbot Spurs at The Rec.
Solomon Ayunga and Sam Fisher netted a hat-trick apiece for Bridport whilst there were six different scorers for Spurs, Toby Pullman striking twice.
Former Peninsula League top-scorer Oli Aplin also put two away as Bovey Tracey AFC won 3-0 at home against Middlezoy Rovers. Meanwhile, Honiton Town were able to jump up a couple of places as they dispatched Ilfracombe Town 4-0.
Looking ahead now and Stoke will visit the aforementioned Ilfracombe at Marlborough Park on Saturday 13, before returning to FA Vase action against Helston Athletic the following weekend.
