A THIRD successive Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police 1st XI fixture fell foul of this winter weather on Saturday, December 6.

Lords Meadow was their scheduled destination but Crediton United were forced into calling this game off.

As a result, Stoke haven’t played a game of football since their 3-2 home win over Ilminster Town on November 15, intriguing clashes with Bridport FC and Cullompton Rangers also falling by the wayside in recent weeks.

Across the whole Walter C Parson South West Peninsula League, a mere two matches went ahead on the weekend.

The only Premier East matchup was between Middlezoy Rovers and Ilfracombe Town, two sides who couldn’t be separated before or after kick-off.

Ahead of the clash, they were locked together in sixth and seventh with 25 points apiece. They then proceeded to play out a nil-nil draw at the Ethan Berry Pavilion, meaning Ilfracombe remain narrowly ahead on goal difference.

Goals were scored in the solitary Premier West tie as Camelford FC prevailed 4-1 away at St. Day AFC.

Mark Gusterson got the ball rolling for the visitors only for St. Day to respond through Tyler Oliver. Strikes from Liam Higgins, Ryan Downing and Jacob Ham then put the game beyond the Saints in this all-Cornish affair.

Camelford jump above Callington Town and into fourth as a result of this win whereas St. Day remain down in 13th.

It wasn’t just the league football that was interrupted over the weekend, Bovey Tracey AFC’s FA Vase third round duel with Wiltshire-based Downton FC also being called off.

Looking ahead now and should the weather allow it, Stoke Gabriel have a swift reunion with Ilminster scheduled for Saturday, December 13, this time visiting them at The Archie Gooch Pavilion. Nine points and 10 places separate the pair, in Stoke’s favour.
