A NEW-look management team fielding a new-look starting line-up against an auld enemy brimming with confidence. No, not England, but Kingsbridge U15s.
With coach Jason Putt and six players away on Devon duties, Ben Glover and Nigel McCoy were Stuart Lancaster and Graham Rowntree for the day.
Eight Kingsbridge tries followed, six of which were scored by the backs, on a cloying pitch made for forward play. And oh, what hay the forwards made.
New-look front-row combination Myles Fowler, Toby 'Chudley' Woods and Liam Edgecombe were driven forward by Ryan 'Dylan' Harris and Dan Jarvis. They battered their opponents at scrum and ruck time and gave a great platform for their backs. Jarvis was a dynamo all match. Freddie Buckle was the stand-out forward, carrying the ball in numerous elusive runs, while Stuart Harris and Tom Moysey were a revelation in their roles as flankers.
Angus Johnstone was the field marshall of the first half. Playing at number 10, he directed operations in an assured manner as his three-quarters ran and ran. A Joe Banfield hat-trick was the highlight of the day. Ivybridge scored a consolation try, but it was not enough to wipe the smile off an Englishman's face. Unless, of course, your name is Andy Robinson.
